The Story of Mrs. Gomes on the Go

How it Started
I have been an educator for as long as I can remember. I was the reliable, neighborhood babysitter, who was booked each weekend day and night from middle school through my college years where, it was only natural, I would graduate with a degree in Elementary Education. From there I spent my summers and school years in various positions throughout schools in CT and MA. I worked as paraprofessionals and teacher assistants until I was hired in Springfield, MA as a 2nd grade teacher. My teaching career grew over the next five years where I taught 2nd grade, 5th grade, was named the Math Dept head and sat on various leadership teams. My life drastically changed when I became a mom and chose to leave the classroom to fulfill my most important role, Mom. While being a mom I became obesessed with sensory play and the benefits my children gained because of the pinterest worthy sensory bins I would curate for them.It wasn't until a neighbor asked me to tutor their child when I realized how much I missed being in the classroom and that educator role. That's when I decided to take a leap of faith and combine my love for education and sensory play leading to the birth of Mrs. Gomes on the Go. I get to mesh my two favorite titles and educate children while having my own children by my side. I am currently a mobile business offering sensory play events throughout CT. There are multiple opportunities to attend a Mrs. Gomes planned event, or plan your own for a party or birthday!I have some big goals and am happy you are here to grow with me!
The Importance of Sensory Play
Sensory play is crucial for children's holistic development as it engages their senses—touch, sight, smell, taste, and hearing—stimulating neural pathways and fostering cognitive growth. Through sensory exploration, kids learn about textures, shapes, and the properties of objects, aiding in the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Moreover, sensory activities promote creativity, problem-solving abilities, and emotional regulation by providing a safe space for experimentation and self-expression. Overall, sensory play lays the foundation for diverse learning experiences, facilitating not only cognitive but also social and emotional development in children.
